California boaters! Join American Whitewater on Monday, May 11th at the State Capitol in
Sacramento for California Rivers
Day–an education, outreach, and activism event focusing on rivers.
Our rivers need your voices more than ever, as the severe and persistent drought has unleashed an
intense push to take us back to the era of big dam building and weaken protections for our
waterways. We hope you'll come out to celebrate
and advocate for our rivers!
California Rivers Day will include:
Pancake Breakfast and paddle: The event will begin at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at
Discovery Park and short paddle down the Sacramento River to the Capitol and the California
Rivers Fair. You can bring your own boat and gear or join in with others that will have
everything that you need. Either way,
please register here!
California Rivers Fair: American Whitewater will be one of over 20 organizations and
business at the fair, which is open to the public. Come learn more about what we're up to and
help promote public awareness of California's rivers. The fair will be open between 9 a.m.
and 4 p.m., and at noon, participants will gather on the West Steps for speakers and a press
event.
Legislator Visits: From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., you'll have the opportunity to meet with key
decision makers in the Legislature and the Governor's Office and share your concerns about
and discuss the future of California's rivers. We'll be talking with key
decision makers specifically about protecting rivers in the context of California's renewable
energy legislation, proposals to build new dams for water storage, and
more. To sign up, contact California
Stewardship Director Dave Steindorf.
Capital River Awards: Friends of the River will host a reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to
celebrate the work of river supporters and
advocates. You can learn more and purchase tickets here.

We know you're passionate about the rivers your boat on. We hope that you'll bring that
passion to our state's leaders and join us for California Rivers Day on Monday, May 11.
