Notification Options
From the river list page, you can choose to have an e-mail sent to you when the river comes up, or choose to have information on a river sent to you on a daily basis. This river information is based on the river list pages interpretation of flow which is established by volunteer stream editors on the American Whitewater site. If you choose that you trust their interpretation, and would like to know how American Whitewater is interpreting the flow of that river on a daily basis and this is a great option to get updates on your favorite rivers.
In order to use this option, choose the rivers that you'd like to get notifications on and select one of the two buttons at the bottom of the screen. The button that reads “Page ASAP” will send an e-mail to you as soon as the river shows that it is running based on the stream editors interpretation. The button that says “E-mail Me Daily” will send you an e-mail with the rivers level if it is running on a daily basis.
The e-mails that are sent report the status of the river using a relative correlation (RC) as opposed to the flow that you see on the river list page. This is the way that the system decides what color to list the river in. A negative number means that the river is not running, while a number over one suggests that the river is too high. In order to see the gauges that went into calculating the release correlation, you'll have to return to the American Whitewater website.
An alternative to following the river directly is to set up personal gauge notifications for the specific gauges that you're interested in watching. The disadvantage of this is that you will have to set up your own minimum levels for paging, and you will not have the benefit of the stream editors interpretation of the streams condition.
A “remove” option is presented on the bottom of the river list which can be used to remove any notifications. You may also tweak your notification options within the personal gauge notifications section of the account settings page off the menu.
